.::Soften Image Tutorial::..
Open Adobe Photoshop (my version is 7) and open the image you wish to soften. I chose this picture from Angel Dust from Aethereality.

On the layers box right click on the layer and click "duplicate layer". A box will pop up and click "ok".

Next, go to the tab bar and click the "Filter" tab and click "Blur" and then "Gaussian Blur". [Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur]

A box will pop up, and set the radius to 4 pixels and click "ok".

Go back to the layers box and on the second layer change the layer mode to "overlay".

This is what my image looks like so far.

The image looks softer, but a little too bright. So what we'll do is lower the opacity. I lowered it to 64%.

And that's all! =) Quite simple, ne? XD This is how my image turned out.

Of course, your results may be different depending on the picture you chose. Play with the layer modes and opacity and it may make the result look much better. Below are some of the results I had using different layer modes & opacity.

I hope this tutorial will help, and don't forget to link back. =)
